This month your magazine opens doors a little to nostalgia. We talk about Woodstock 38 years later, with icon Country Joe McDonald – were you alive in 1969? In any event, there’s the Burning Man Festival, where you can relive that spirit, in the desert of Nevada. We also remember the only modern war that ever came close to Brazil, though it took place already 25 years ago. And, sort of combining old and new, there’s London Duck Tours, using war vehicles for a much, much better purpose, that is, travelling in and out of the Thames River without leaving the car. But don’t worry, we’ve got many forward-looking articles, too. Start with Europe’s fastest-developing country, Ireland, whose growth rate is so impressive that it’s beginning to cause problems. There’s young, talented (and gorgeous) Christina Aguilera, there’s cynical Dr. House, there are ladies rediscovering fun in life with a red hat, and there’s life and love with the world’s worst dog, Marley. In the midst of it all, our common language, English, becoming increasingly uncommon. All in all, Speak Up this month follows the path of New York’s architecture: opening its way between development and conservation. Let’s enjoy both! hat problem?
